Geological Survey of the Netherlands

Geological Survey of the Netherlands is the Netherlands' central geoscientific information and research centre for the sustainable management and use of the subsurface and the natural resources found there. (leader)

Geological Survey of the Netherlands is the public centre that is able to provide an independent, objective and authoritative opinion on all geoscientific aspects of these activities

Subsurface and Groundwater

  • Development and application of (geophysical) recording techniques and sampling for use in characterising the subsurface.
  • Analysis and modelling of physical aspects of geosystems for engineering geology, geology and the sustainable use of space.
  • Spatial interpretation of data and information regarding the shallow subsurface of the Netherlands. The analysis of geobiological systems for the benefit of dating (biostratigraphy), paleo-environmental research and climate research.
  • Development and application of geochemical methods and techniques for the collection, quality assurance, analysis and interpretation of geochemical data and information regarding the soil/subsurface.
  • Groundwater systems (quality and quantity; single and multiphase flow, interaction with surface water) for the management of these systems in relation to social issues.
  • Spatial interpretation of groundwater data and information, including groundwater quality monitoring networks. The development of applications for the spatial interpretation of these data and information.

Geo energy and Geo information

  • The development and application of methods and techniques for the monitoring of geosystems and of systems for data management (input, QC, management, provision).
  • The analysis and modelling of geosystems at well, reservoir and regional level for the E&P of natural gas, oil, geothermal energy and for the storage of energy and materials.
  • The development and application of methods and techniques for strategy and risk management for use in the E&P of natural gas and oil (including environmental aspects).
  • The spatial interpretation of data and information regarding the deep subsurface of the Netherlands.
  • DINO, information service responsible for the acquisition, quality assurance and provision of data and information about the Dutch subsurface. Information is provided to Dutch companies, government bodies and other organisations as well as to individual Dutch citizens, via the DINOShop (Dinoshop). Marginal costs are charged for the provision of data.
